Abstract

To what extent does further growth in the size of ultra large container ships make sense from the operator's point of view? Is it possible that the current ship sizes are already having the opposite effect to that which the size growth is actually intended to achieve from the operator's point of view? These questions will be examined on the basis of a number of fundamental considerations, whereby the effects of the longer port lay times of the ever larger ships will be examined in particular with the help of proportionalities.
