Many industrial and commercial organisation with a large cargo handling volume use modern highly automated transport and warehousing equipment. The automation, however, stops at the terminals where the goods are transferred to external transport. Despite of suitable technology piece goods are still loaded manually on trucks with fork lift trucks or stackers. The Institute of Material Handling, Material Flow,Logistics has developed a computer-aided tool to show the rationalisation potentials but also the risks of an automated goods handling. This tool was tested during several pilot projects under hard planning conditions.Downloads
